Character Breakdown
Here is a character breakdown of Addams Family Young@Part
The Living Members of the Addams Family & their guests:
The living family members as well as the “normal” family which includes Wednesday's love interest Lucas and his parents must be able to solo. The more confident singers will be best suited for these roles as they each have multiple solos and require more memorization and rehearsal time.
Wednesday Addams:
Wednesday is a smart and driven young girl who has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother. She has a fallen in love with a “normal” boy (Lucas) and wants to introduce his family to hers. Typically, sullen and sure of herself she is not used to the new feelings of being unsure and anxious over a boy who can actually put a smile on her face.
Gomez Addams:
The family patriarch who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an “Addams.” He struggles with having to keep his daughters secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death. Smart, comedic.
Morticia Addams:
The strength of the family. An easy comedic actress with a dry wit. Feels her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. The real head of the family, smiles are rare, and with fierce family loyalty.
Uncle Fester:
The bald family member. They are larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. A vaudeville style comedian. Uncle Fester is incorrigible. They wear a black great coat with an enormous collar and have deep sunken eyes.
Lucas Beineke:
Fell in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her someday. Experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family.. Lucas is (for the most part), a fairly normal person. He also has a crazy and dark side, proven during “Crazier Than You”.
Pugsley Addams:
A charming, funny, husky kid who loves being tortured by his sister. Wants to ensure he won’t lose his sister to her new boyfriend, so he takes matters into his own hands. An energetic and dedicated troublemaker, a more devious version of the kid next door.
Mal Beineke:
Stuffy father of Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. At one time was a follower of The Grateful Dead but has lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family.
Alice Beineke:
Mother of Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. In shape, quirky female who often speaks in rhyme. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth.
Lurch:
A very tall character (any gender), the Addams butler who knows all. They speak in moans and groans. Their movement is always very slow.
Grandmama:
A feisty 102-year-old! Fun and quirky, but don’t mess with Grandma. Comedic actor with strong character. Silly, plotting but also childlike at times, she is the mother of Gomez.
The Addams Family Ancestors:
Spirits from the beyond who come to the aid of any Addams Family member when summoned.
Conquistador Addams:
A spirit who was a Conquistador in life.
Bride Addams:
A female member of the Addams Family who died on her wedding day.
Baseball Addams:
A former baseball player who was an Addams.
Flapper Addams:
An flapper Addams from the 1920s
Pirate Addams:
A pirate who was an Addams.
Antoinette Addams:
A lady Addams from the French Revolution
Sous Chef Addams:
An Addams who was a chef in life
Rockstar Addams:
A big-hair band Addams from the 80s
Etc.
We will have many more than the above-named Ancestors. The Ancestors are key to the storyline. They primarily sing as an ensemble but 6 have small solos which will be assigned when we cast, and they are split into various groups when they perform in specific scenes. The Ancestor roles are well suited for the younger children and those who are newer to musical theater, those who prefer to sing in groups, those who have other time constraints during the rehearsal period, and those who are not as confident yet while performing (though this changes quickly once on stage😉)
