Dixon Community Theater is dedicated to creating enriching performing arts opportunities for children in Dixon, fostering creativity and self-expression in young minds. One of our cherished past offerings is the Storytime Theater program held at the Dixon Library, where children had the chance to engage with stories through performing arts, bringing characters to life while enhancing their love for reading. Additionally, during the summer of 2024, we hosted the Fairytale Theater Camp at Dixon’s Multiuse Center, providing an immersive experience where children could explore their imaginations, develop their acting skills, and enjoy collaborative play in a supportive environment.
In addition to these initiatives, we continue to offer youth theater productions that allow children to shine on stage. These productions not only showcase their talents but also cultivate teamwork and boost their confidence as they work together to create memorable performances. By providing these opportunities, Dixon Community Theater aims to inspire the next generation of artists and instill a passion for the performing arts that will last a lifetime.

Youth theater offers invaluable benefits that extend far beyond the stage, enriching the lives of young participants through artistic expression, confidence building, and teamwork. At Dixon Community Theater, we are proud to provide a platform for youth to explore their talents and creativity through our engaging productions. Our youth theater offerings, such as “The Little Town of Christmas” and “Treasure Island,” create opportunities for children to step into the spotlight, develop their acting skills, and learn the intricacies of stagecraft. These performances not only allow young actors to shine but also foster a sense of camaraderie and belonging as they collaborate toward a common goal.

One standout production, “Alice’s Wonderland,” beautifully exemplified the benefits of intergenerational collaboration by incorporating both children and adult cast members. This unique opportunity enables younger performers to learn from experienced actors, gaining insights into the craft and industry while building confidence in their abilities. The mentorship provided by adult performers helps instill important life skills, such as communication, dedication, and resilience, while creating lasting bonds between different generations of artists.

Overall, the youth theater at Dixon Community Theater plays a vital role in shaping young individuals, equipping them with the tools they need to navigate not only the world of performing arts but also their broader life experiences. Through our various youth programs, our participants also have the opportunity to take part in community events like the May Fair parade and the Dixon Christmas tree lighting. By participating in these opportunities, children gain more than just theatrical skills—they develop personal growth, pride in their community and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
