Our most recent youth theater production, Treasure Island, received glowing reviews from the audiences and provided the opportunity for 27 young actors to showcase their skills and shine on the Dixon Performing Arts Center stage!

Youth theater offers invaluable benefits that extend far beyond the stage, enriching the lives of young participants through artistic expression, confidence building, and teamwork. We take an inclusive approach to performing arts education, incorporating creativity, diverse opportunity, and self-expression. Our youth theater program is designed to be welcoming, accommodating, and adaptive, giving every child, regardless, of experience or ability, the chance to participate, learn and grow. At Dixon Community Theater, we are proud to provide a platform for youth to explore their talents and creativity through our engaging productions. Our youth theater offerings, such as “The Little Town of Christmas” and “Treasure Island,” create opportunities for children to step into the spotlight, develop their acting skills, and learn the intricacies of stagecraft. These performances not only allow young actors to shine but also foster a sense of camaraderie and belonging as they collaborate toward a common goal.
Our Upcoming 2026 Season
As we move into our 3rd year, Dixon Community Theater is actively preparing for our 2026 season which will include further opportunities for young people to perform. We are also hoping to extend our outreach into potential collaborations with the Dixon Unified School District. Each community partnership allows us to bring our programs to more of the young actors in our area, and to achieving our dream of making the performing arts accessible to everyone in our community!
Our students have the opportunity to showcase their talents through a variety of performances, from recitals to full-scale productions. In our two years of operation, youth programs, outreach and opportunities have been one of our top priorities. These have included..

Intergenerational Theater is the combination of youth and adult actors in one production. This unique opportunity enables younger performers to learn from experienced actors, gaining insights into the craft and industry while building confidence in their abilities. The mentorship provided by adult performers helps instill important life skills, such as communication, dedication, and resilience, while creating lasting bonds between different generations of artists. One standout production, “Alice’s Wonderland,” beautifully exemplified the benefits of intergenerational collaboration by incorporating both children and adult cast members. This original musical written by Kelly Pidgeon James and Cheryl Sommers featured original music written by Kelly Pidgeon James and Kyle Jackson and Angi Wolf and Jeff Lewis. This provided the opportunity for the younger actors to not only glean acting insights from the older cast members but also gave them the opportunity to sing with the more experienced vocalists in the production. For many of the youth performers this was their first opportunity to participate in a musical. The effect was inarguable as the younger actors openly asked for more musical opportunities which influenced the decision to make Treasure Island into a musical as well.

One of our cherished past offerings is the Storytime Theater program held at the Dixon Library, where children had the chance to engage with stories through performing arts, bringing characters to life while enhancing their love for reading. Additionally, during the summer of 2024, we hosted the Fairytale Theater Camp at Dixon’s Multiuse Center, providing an immersive experience where children could explore their imaginations, develop their acting skills, and enjoy collaborative play in a supportive environment.
These initiatives and productions not only showcase our participants talents but also cultivate teamwork and boost their confidence as they work together to create memorable performances. By providing these opportunities, Dixon Community Theater aims to inspire the next generation of artists and instill a passion for the performing arts that will last a lifetime.

With Dixon Community Theater, our youth theater participants are given the opportunity to participate in community engagement and outreach opportunities. We believe in giving back and in providing opportunities that help to shape young individuals, equipping them with the tools they need to navigate not only the world of performing arts but also their broader life experiences. Through our various youth programs, our participants also have the opportunity to take part in events like the May Fair parade and the Dixon Christmas tree lighting. By participating in these opportunities, children gain more than just theatrical skills—they develop personal growth, pride in their community and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
