Welcome to Dixon Community Youth Theater

What makes our youth theater programs different?

At Dixon Community Theater, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the performing arts, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. That’s why we keep our participation fee at just $35—a tiny fraction of what many other local theater programs charge. While many youth theater organizations must charge hundreds of dollars per participant to cover expenses, we are committed to keeping our programs accessible to all.

Maintaining affordable participation costs requires significant effort behind the scenes. Our volunteers and leaders work tirelessly to secure sponsorships, donations, grants, and community support so that financial barriers do not prevent young people from taking the stage.

EMPOWERING THROUGH SERVICE AND THE ARTS

We are deeply committed to serving our community beyond our productions. Dixon Community Theater actively participates in local events such as the Dixon Christmas Tree Lighting, the annual Trunk-or-Treat celebration, and other community activities. Through these efforts, we strive not only to make theater accessible to local residents and support fellow nonprofit organizations, but also to provide meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with their community. By participating in service and outreach activities, youth learn the value of collaboration, civic engagement, and giving back while gaining a deeper appreciation for the important role they can play in strengthening and enriching their community.

OPPORTUNITIES AND INCLUSIVITY: wHERE EVERY CHILD SHINES

Lastly, we believe that every child deserves a chance to shine. Rather than limiting opportunities through highly selective casting, we work hard to ensure that every participant who joins our productions has a meaningful role and the opportunity to grow, learn, and experience the joy of performing on stage. We recognize that confidence, talent, and a love for the arts are often developed through participation, not simply discovered in those who already have experience. By creating an inclusive environment where every child is welcomed and valued, we help young performers build self-confidence, develop new skills, form lasting friendships, and discover strengths they may never have known they possessed.

Character Breakdown

Here is a character breakdown of Addams Family Young@Part

The Living Members of the Addams Family & their guests:

The living family members as well as the “normal” family which includes Wednesday's love interest Lucas and his parents must be able to solo. The more confident singers will be best suited for these roles as they each have multiple solos and require more memorization and rehearsal time.

Wednesday Addams:
Wednesday is a smart and driven young girl who has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother. She has a fallen in love with a “normal” boy (Lucas) and wants to introduce his family to hers. Typically, sullen and sure of herself she is not used to the new feelings of being unsure and anxious over a boy who can actually put a smile on her face.

Gomez Addams:
The family patriarch who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an “Addams.” He struggles with having to keep his daughters secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death. Smart, comedic.

Morticia Addams:
The strength of the family. An easy comedic actress with a dry wit. Feels her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. The real head of the family, smiles are rare, and with fierce family loyalty.

Uncle Fester:
The bald family member. They are larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. A vaudeville style comedian. Uncle Fester is incorrigible. They wear a black great coat with an enormous collar and have deep sunken eyes.

Lucas Beineke:
Fell in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her someday. Experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family.. Lucas is (for the most part), a fairly normal person. He also has a crazy and dark side, proven during “Crazier Than You”.

Pugsley Addams:
A charming, funny, husky kid who loves being tortured by his sister. Wants to ensure he won’t lose his sister to her new boyfriend, so he takes matters into his own hands. An energetic and dedicated troublemaker, a more devious version of the kid next door.

Mal Beineke:
Stuffy father of Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. At one time was a follower of The Grateful Dead but has lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family.

Alice Beineke:
Mother of Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. In shape, quirky female who often speaks in rhyme. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth.

Lurch:
A very tall character (any gender), the Addams butler who knows all. They speak in moans and groans. Their movement is always very slow.

Grandmama:
A feisty 102-year-old! Fun and quirky, but don’t mess with Grandma. Comedic actor with strong character. Silly, plotting but also childlike at times, she is the mother of Gomez.

The Addams Family Ancestors:
Spirits from the beyond who come to the aid of any Addams Family member when summoned.

Conquistador Addams:

A spirit who was a Conquistador in life.

Bride Addams:

A female member of the Addams Family who died on her wedding day.

Baseball Addams:

A former baseball player who was an Addams.

Flapper Addams:

An flapper Addams from the 1920s

Pirate Addams:

A pirate who was an Addams.

Antoinette Addams:

A lady Addams from the French Revolution

Sous Chef Addams:

An Addams who was a chef in life

Rockstar Addams:

A big-hair band Addams from the 80s

Etc.

We will have many more than the above-named Ancestors. The Ancestors are key to the storyline. They primarily sing as an ensemble but 6 have small solos which will be assigned when we cast, and they are split into various groups when they perform in specific scenes. The Ancestor roles are well suited for the younger children and those who are newer to musical theater, those who prefer to sing in groups, those who have other time constraints during the rehearsal period, and those who are not as confident yet while performing (though this changes quickly once on stage😉)

Outreach

Dixon Community Theater is committed to nurturing a lifelong appreciation for creativity and artistic expression in children by providing them with access to the performing arts. We recognize the vital role that early exposure to the arts can play in a child's development, and we strive to make our programs available to the community. Whenever possible, we actively participate in school events and local festivals to demonstrate our support for Dixon’s educational institutions while reaching out to families. Through these efforts, we aim to create lasting connections between the theater and the community, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore their creativity.
